Yesterday I received a bottle of Ava Luxe Midnight Violet I'd ordered a week or so ago. Serena sent me a sample of the Midnight Violet when I ordered a little bottle of Blackberry Musk for the coming warm weather, and I fell in love with it. It opens with a very dry, almost overpowering sharp woods-and-violet smell, with a shot of greenness. The orris and black hemlock come shrieking out of the bottle, becoming almost too dark, dry, and earthy. It mellows into a slightly powdery yet not too sweet scent, still of violet over woods. This one is listed as being unisex, but I do find it somewhat more feminine than not. It has good lasting power - about 6 hours on my skin, which tends to munch perfume. I expected it to be slightly dirtier with civet being in the base, but it isn't a "clean" scent by any means, and that suits me just fine. If I wanted to smell like soap, I'd wear soap. :P
Late last night, I ordered 5ml decants of Etro's Messe de Minuit (which sounds like it will be right up my alley), and Caron's Parfum Sacre. Can't wait for these to arrive.
